Hamvention Theme “Amateur Radio, The Future”

The theme for the 2020 Hamvention is “Amateur Radio, The Future”.  Jack Gerbs, WB8SCT, Hamvention General Chairman, said the theme is focused on technology, past, present and future.

“As amateur radio operators, we enjoy many modes of operating, CW, AM, SSB, FM, Digital, etc.  We also enjoy challenges such as satellite communications, moon bounce, meteor scatter and more,” Gerbs said.

“What truly excites me about our hobby is, the diversity of these modes and the fact that as we move to the future, we still enjoy the technologies of the past, from tubes, to transistors, to chips, and now microprocessors, ASICS and SOCs,” he said.  “Come celebrate with us as we celebrate our past, present and future.”

Hamvention has long been the place to find a part for an antique radio or to see the latest technology. The theme acknowledges the role that amateur radio has always played and will continue to play in future communication developments.

Gerbs acknowledged the contributions of the many hams who actively work on new ideas, equipment designs and software to improve electronic communication. He also thanked all the volunteers and organizations that support amateur radio.
